Would you like to learn about the amazing history and current uses of Boothbay region’s lighthouses? Then join us at the JPVIS community house for a presentation by Elaine Jones on August 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM. Come and listen to unique stories and legends associated with each light station’s past, as well as learning about the dedicated keepers who served and the passionate stewards who followed in saving, repurposing, and restoring these light stations for future generations.
A public school science teacher and retired Education Director at the DMR, Elaine Jones has been recognized for her vision, dedication, and 30 years of public service. She designed and built the Maine State Aquarium in 1995 and acquired the Burnt Island Light Station in 1998, where students, teachers, and visitors alike shared hands-on learning through interactive exhibits and living history programs.
As founder of the nonprofit Lighthouse Education & Nautical Studies (LENS), her passion for teaching continues in retirement through sponsorship of summer camps on Burnt Island, day-sail programs for teachers, and service to other Maine Lights.
