Greetings, everybody,

Did you notice “Story Telling — JPVIS history” is back?!  Next Wednesday, July 14, at 7 pm, is the July session.  More on what to expect below.  But first, some logistics.

Place:  The Community House  (Yes, our leadership believes, and I agree, that we are “covid-safe” enough to gather indoors at the Community House, but not at the Gillies or any other cottage.)  Masks for those vaccinated are optional.

Refreshments:  I will provide one bottle each of red and white wine as well as seltzer.  But it is probably also a good idea to suggest that some of you BYOBeverage.

I will arrange for a few people to bring some simple munchies.  If you feel so inclined, please email, text, or call me to let me know what you are bringing.

Seating:  If you have one of those folding canvas chairs, or something similar, which would be more comfortable for you than the folding wooden Community House chairs, by all means bring it.

Here are some ideas about what to bring along the lines of stories.  Let’s tell stories!  What is a favorite story of yours, of your family’s?

*For those who are perhaps 3rd generation or greater, what is your favorite story told by a grandparent or other elder about life on The Point as they remembered it?

*For those who have come to The Point more recently:  What is the story of what brought you— not just to Maine, not just to the Boothbay peninsula, but to Juniper-McKown Point in West Boothbay Harbor ME?!

*For those who love your cottage or home, what is its story?

*For those who once had or still have a beloved boat, what’s its story?

*Activities through the years:  What is your favorite story...

—about a certain boat regatta & picnic on Outer Heron or Spectacle Island?

—about a particular tennis championship?  —or how Juniper-McKown Pointers fared in One Design races during a particular year or era?

—about Lobster Bakes or Field Days, on Reed’s field back in the day, or on Whitten’s field in more recent decades?

—about weekly square dances back in the day, or junior activity nights in more recent years?

*For those who can illustrate your story (or someone else’s!) with an old photograph, bring it along.

Of course, telling a story is not a requirement.  What’s a story without listeners?  Our story-telling/history evenings are fun; come along and enjoy.

From Kit Andrews

P.S.  When I refer to “The Point” I mean the whole of McKown Point which runs the length of McKown Point Road which starts at the 4-corners; includes Harborfields and Massachusetts, Juniper Point, Pooler’s Point, Hahn Cove & Rock Roads (& a few other new roads whose names I’m not recalling at this moment); and ends at the old federal fish hatchery, now the Maine lab & aquarium.  How did our association get named the Juniper Point Village Improvement Society when its territory includes so much more than Juniper Point?  Now there’s a story!
